After we had found the stone spear we spent the night and the next day recovering from the battle with the Fetish Weaver and the Stone Creatures. Telal recovered, and was able to heal both Ciras wounds and mine. In Cira's prison was a man who was missing his legs and one of his arms. Although he was not bleeding, the wounds appeared to be fresh and he was close to death. Telal believes that he was being kept alive by the Fetish Weaver for food. Telal attempted to heal him, but the man never recovered, but he wouldnt die. Before we left we gave his spirit to his gods. We stayed in the chamber for the day, healing ourselves and cleaning the sacred chamber. The Sacred Chamber deserves more respect that the Fetish Weaver gave it. However we knew that the Fetish Weaver was still out on the mountain and possessed some of our items and food. Therefore we continued to set a watch that night, before we hunted it in the morning. My quarrel with the beast was his treatment of Cira and the desecration of the sacred chamber. I do not know if the Ashani whispered to me, or if I was restless, but during Telals watch I felt and heard a zephyr in the sacred chamber. I knew that the Fetish Weaver had returned. I barely saw it take shape because the lantern was in the other end of the room. Immediately I charged the beast, because our quarrel could only be settled by death. The Fetish Weaver was determined to escape with its sword, but it felt the sting of my spear. My companions rushed to help but the Fetish Weaver slipped out into the ravine. As we tumbled through the entrance we saw it jump for the lip of the ravine opposite us. This ravine was more than twice my height, but the Fetish Weaver caught the lip of the ravine with its hands. Cira and I struck the creature and Telal jumped and wrestled with the Fetish Weaver. It lifted Telal up on to the lip of ravine but Telal reversed the advantage and grappled the monster so its head was pinned to his chest. He flipped it's legs up over his shoulder, for a moment both teetered on the lip with the Fetish Weavers legs high above Telal's head and then both tumbled violently back into the ravine. Telal survived the drop but the Fetish Weaver weakened from its wounds died. So the quarrel ended. We found the items it stole from us, but most of the food was spoiled. At the dawn of the 26th day of our journey we set out once more. After a day of flying over the mountains we reached the edge of the mountains. The next stage of our journey would be over a valley and the massive lake in the middle. So much water in one place is staggering. This land of bounty was once ours and we by right will return, guided by the Ashani. |
