The Journal of Harajimal Fazajalavor

This journal was written over a two-year period (258yp – 260yp). The journal begins with Harajimal’s frustration with his brother’s move to establish a presence with a criminal organization within Lie’lm. Harajimal fear that his brother’s actions would jeopardize his family’s (immediate and extended) welfare. He details his conversations with his dying mother and his brother. He writes that he understands his brother’s motivation to escape from his shadow and make his own mark in the world. However, Harajimal wrote that this was a foolish way to accomplish his desires. Initially Harajimal’s brother appeared to be successful, because it appeared the assembly turned a blind eye. This made his brother very bold. Although it is not detailed the journal speaks of an arrangement or a favour has kept the Assembly away from the Fazajalavor family for over a 100 years. Harajimal describes a working relationship with the Shadowmages Faran Milamar, Toravec Raliral and Alima Lira. As the situation became worse and particularly after his brother executed a member of the Fist of Chal (TheFist) Harajimal worked with Faran Milamar, Toravec Raliral and Alima Lira to stop his brother and his cohort before anything worse happened. An agreement was struck for the safety of the Fazajalavor family and Harajimal delivered his brother and his followers to the Assembly. The last few pages are filled with bitterness that the amnesty was not honoured and he betrayed his brother for an empty promise. In the journal he laments for his wife, his children and his family. His only hope is his sister’s son Aram whom he sent away several weeks before the attack on his keep to the Trajamar.

A Treatise on the Power of Words

This book details the magical nature of words and names. It suggests that by the utterance of the right words a person can alter and shape the world and the people around him. Most others would call this shaping magic. The book claims that each person and object has a name and that knowing the name can give the speaker power of the person or thing. Furthermore by stringing together the correct words a person might fly, create fire or be spell someone. The book gives several examples of phrases and words that can create specific effects.

Essays and Letter concerning Chal, and the Magic Arts – collected and bound in 258yp

This book is a collection of letters and essays of a Professor Alaraz’ail Izaj and four students (Izaraj, Lamari, Omal’imal and Torival) of the Lie’lm (Lielm) University. The book examines the relationship, the validity and sanctity of magic to Chal. The book discusses three basis premises. The first stance is that magic is a tool, like a hammer and nothing more. Therefore magic in of itself is neutral. The wielder is the one to be judged, as are all people. Lastly since magic is a tool, its source is not relevant. The argument then goes on to discuss intent and result as a basis for judgment of each individual. The second premise state that magic in of itself is evil, because the source of magic is not Chal. Magic is a specific creation of the Praj designed to circumvent the order Chal had established in his creation. As a result magic is designed to destroy. This stance recognizes that some Praj stayed loyal to Chal and used their magic to counter the magic of the other Praj. However, this argument states that all Praj are imperfect and their creations, people, creatures and magic are all flawed. Since magic is flawed it is not of Chal and therefore evil in of itself. The third argument agrees with the premise that magic comes from the Praj and the Praj are imperfect. This argument varies from the second in that it claims that the Praj were created by Chal, and through the Praj, Chal created magic. This argument states that magic must be avoided not because it is inherently evil, but rather because of its great power can easily corrupt the user. Therefore this argument states that magic must either be outlawed or tightly regulated. The book does not endorse on position. Harajimal Fazajalavor has written many notes in the margins in an apparent attempt to build an airtight case for argument one.

Song and Prayer to Chal

This book is a collection of prayer and songs dedicated to Chal. Both the songs and prayers are considered to be part of worship. The songs tend to emphasis the power and glory of Chal. Noting his patience and forbearance. Imagery includes water, the night sky and circles. The circle of life is often highlighted as the beginning and the end, with Chal sitting in the center and the creator. The earlier songs do not assign a gender to Chal, but the latter ones identify Chal as male. The prayers are divided into two types: prayers of thanks and prayers of sanctification. Themes include creation, salvation, purification and reconciliation. These songs and prayers span 240 years. The oldest are attributed to the prophet himself.
