Qwiki Syntax Rules:
QwikiWiki intentionally does not adhere to the standard wiki formatting rules because DavidBarrett? thinks they are unnecessarily complex. Thus, QwikiWiki uses its own syntactical rule set. It may seem rather terse and complex when you read it here, but it really is quite simple and natural as you do it.
Creating Headings
Any line containing at least two words, all of which are capitalized, becomes a heading.
Creating Lists
Any line starting with a "bullet identifier" becomes a line in a list. The supported bullet identifiers are as follows:
Question Mark (?): Creates a "question item"
Exclamation Mark (!): Creates an "action item"
— Hyphen (-): Creates a hyphenated line
• Period (.): Creates a bulleted line
1. Number: Creates a numbered line. Any numbered line starting with one resets the list counter. Lines starting with numbers other than one are renumbered as necessary. Likewise, the list counter is reset with every heading.
List lines that begin with one or more capitalized words followed by a colon (:) produces an inline subheading. Furthermore, list entries are indented by the number of spaces preceding the bullet identifier, to a maximum depth of two (three separate indentiation levels, including unindented). Bullet identifiers can be mixed-and-matched at will.
Automatic Linking
Text on QwikiPages? is scanned for several patterns, which automatically produce links of the following types:
— Email addresses and DNS names become hyperlinks, as do URLs of the form xxx://xxx.xxx?xxx (where 'x' is any non-whitespace character)
Miscellaneous Notes
— Any combination of letters, numbers, and whitespace between asterices on a single line become bolded (ie, surrounding words inside a sentence with the '*' makes it bold).
HTML Notes
— Inline HTML is allowed, though care must be taken to avoid conflicting with the other automated markup rules.
— To insert HTML without applying markup rules, begin a line with <HTML>. Every subsequent line will be output directly to the web browser, without alteration, until a line ends with </HTML>.
Examples of all these styles can be viewed at QwikiSyntaxExamples.
