On the bodies of the two slain men is a battle axe, a great scimitar, a short sword, a breast plate made of hardened leather with metal sewn into it, a chain shirt, a silver clasp and a fancy cloak to match. Each man wore a silver bracer. There is writing on the inside of each bracer. The larger man also had an elaborate buckle with the carved image of a horse on the copper buckle. They have some money in a pouch. There also a large helmet which is nicely wrought.
Sjer organizes Zali and the two bring the last of the horses, plus Afalar and all the items from the three fallen foes. We follow the white dog as it tracks the family. The dog heads off into the woods instead of down the road. We catch up after only an hour as one of the little girls has fallen. She has sustained a fairly severe head wound. The light is now fading and the horses are all saddled and ready to go. Sjer gives the axe as a gift to young Iram, whose eyes light up as he comprehends the implication.
Zali's horse, Jazijas, is still wounded so Sjer tends him and Afalar and the little girl. We give a healing draught to the girl's mother and instruct her to have the girl drink it. The evening passes smoothly and easily. In the early morning Afalar wakes up and Sjer eases a healing draught down his throat. The girl if fully healed now.
(Provided the white dog is within a mile of Sjer, he gains the alertness feat, plus a +2 to listen and +4 to smell checks.)
After the sun is up we slowly begin our journey home. After 3 hours we make it back to the road. The road takes us past the inn that we met Ezec in. Sjer goes in and gets food and drink for all. We arrive back at the city and make our way to the compound without incident.
We tell Hail'm's father that the boy and Ezec did not come back. His grief is plain to see and both Zali'haro's and Sjer's compassion goes out to him.
It is the evening of the 64th. Amira, the chief of security congratulates us on our job well done. He suggests the dog be kept in Sjer's quarters, but may have the run of the courtyards.
We retire to the baths and clean the journeys away. Our wounds heal in the morning and the day seems fine as we dine on cheesecake layered with strawberries. Amidst the cool water and melon there is a note from L'talus summoning us to his quarters.
We answer the summons. We enter L'talus's quarters and partake of a fine young wine. L'talus compliments us on our success and asks us for our story.
Afalar goes on at length about epicenters and crenellations. We then launch into a cronological telling of it. Sjer and Zali mention to L'talus about the healing potions and the mage's room that we discovered below. Not until it was too late to stop did Sjer see the black looks Afalar was shooting at them. Belatedly he realized Afalar had wanted to keep that information from L'talus.
Back in Afalar's room we check out the items we have and find the brooch is indeed magical. The silver bracelets are magic as well. They help fighters to fight in pairs. We decide Afalar should keep the ring and the brooch, but Sjer will keep the shirt. None of the gems are magical so it should be safe to convert them to cash. Zali'haro will have the chain shirt and great scimitar as well as the kurdrun scimitar. Afalar will have both of Mazidi's weapons.
