SKILLS RULES
— SKILLS.1: Skill Rolls - some skill rolls are secretly performed by the GM because the player wouldn't have a feeling for the result:
— Listen, Read Lips, Spot
— For example, with Search, a character would get a sense for how well they searched particularly because they are actively performing the skill; if they rolled a 20 and don't find anything, then that is something they should know. On the other hand, unless a character is actively performing Spot (by declaring so), this passively performed skill should be rolled by the DM so to not alert the player that there is something to spot.
— SKILLS.2: Listening Rolls - when several characters are listening together, only one roll is made (by the DM see SKILLS.1). However, each character adds their Listen modifier separately to the roll; only those characters whose total (roll + Listen modifier) exceeds the DC can hear (and GM should communicate separately to each character what they hear because it is up to the character to decide how much information to share with the others).
MISCELLANEOUS RULES
— MISC.1: Barbarian Rage - after a rage, the character is fatigued (PHB3 p.25). It takes some time to recover from the rage. Every 10 minutes, roll a FORT save, DC30 to recover from fatigue. The DC is reduced by 2 every 10 minutes.
— MISC.2: Drowning (see Swim, PHB3 p.74, DMG3 p.85) is equivalent to taking enough subdual damage to reach 0 HP.
